Back in 2007, using my PlayStation 3, I was able to take part in a research system focused on proteins and neurodegenerative diseases such as Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s. The PS3’s CPU power could be used for calculations, and the results were then sent to the Folding@home cloud. Looking back, the project was incredibly ahead of its time.

PS3 specs :

CPU : Cell Broadband Engine 3,2 GHz (90 nm)
Single PS3 calcul power : 200 GFLOPS
Network : 1 million consoles connected to the grid
PS3 grid power : ~650 TFLOPS
